3 Tips To Ensuring You Maintain A Work-Life Balance

The year 2020 was crazy for everyone. Some of us had to deal with changes in our jobs, while others added to their families. Then, some did both! Wherever you ended 2020, there are probably still some things you are trying to adjust to. If you are like me, I got new job, a newborn, and I am working from home! Having all of this has made keeping everything separate, difficult. So what are some ways you can keep your sanity?

Take Breaks To Walk Around Or Go To The Gym

One of the best ways I have been able to keep some level of sanity is to take breaks. At the start of the closures (before baby), I would try to go to the gym during the day at some point. I would also take time to do some chores. I needed something to take a break from my work. When the gyms closed, I would walk around my community. Now, that I have my daughter at home (with a sitter), I will take multiple breaks a day just to see her smiling face!

Listen To Some Music

With so many working from home, there can be a huge temptation to watch TV while we work. This can cause you to get more behind with work or cause you to get in trouble with your boss. Instead, try listening to music. It can easily be played in the background without the need for you to look at the screen. Plus, depending on the music, it can provide a relaxing result.

Have A Set Offline Time

I myself have been bad about this one. I get involved with work so much that I will sign on super early and sign off super late. My father is the same way (also working from home). When you don’t have a clear cut time of when you are “working” at home and when you are “living” at home. Otherwise you are left feeling more stressed because your days melt together as one. You will feel trapped and feel that much worse.

Ultimately, you have to be your own advocate. You can set timers and schedules to make sure you have the ability to delineate between working and living.
