The Time Is Running Out! Think About These 3 Ways To Change Your Finances

Life is hard. Dealing with financial insecurity and other debt makes it even harder. We all have our different quirks or desires which tend to set us back in our financial foundation. They aren’t necessarily bad things, rather they are things which inhibit us from making the most out of our budget and other finances. You might already be thinking about some of these items, but let’s discuss some below.

1. Your Hobbies

So like many, I am quite guilty of this one. I love woodworking. Unfortunately, it can be quite costly when creating something new. Between the wood, hardware, stain, and paint the total cost can run in the hundreds of dollars. Others may choose gaming as their hobby. This too can be expensive when the games these days run $60-$100 per game. This is on top of an already expensive gaming system. So what can we do? Well for my hobby, I could sell some of the things I make to clear up space and also make some money off of the project. Similarly, gaming enthusiasts can resell their older games or consoles. Again, you get some cash back as well as not accumulating more stuff!

2. Your Free-time

Working long hours every week can be tough, but the weekend is always around the corner. This is the time we take to kick back and unwind. Unfortunately, this is also the time when we tend to spend more of our money to do the things we want. This can mean parties, movies, eating out, shopping, etc. We have a two day window, and many try to cram as much into it as possible. The problem though is similar to your hobbies. You are buying more stuff and not getting rid of anything. Try selling your old clothes or donating them before going shopping. Have movie nights or parties at home or at a friends house. Lastly, try eating in more. You don’t have to completely cut yourself off from the things you love, but you should probably cut back.

3. Wasted Space

This is a big one for people who love the idea of being a minimalist. Your things are not only using your money, they are also taking up space. The more you buy, the more stuff you tend to hold on to. Thus, when we move to a new home we tend to subconsciously want a bigger home to fit all of our stuff. Why? Get rid of your stuff! Again, sell the items you can and donate others. You can get some cash out of the items you sell, and potentially write off the donations on your taxes at the end of the year! On top of all of this, you will have more room in your beautiful home to enjoy!

These are three crazy simple things to think about which you can utilize today! Learning to live with fewer things will benefit you for years to come. Plus, you will get to recoup some of the cash you shelled out to get the things to begin with. Things will never make you happy for long. Eventually, they will get boring and lose value in your mind. After all, you can’t take any of this with you when you die!
