When It Is Time To Start Investing In Yourself and For Yourself
It is 2021, we finally made it. 2020 was a rough year for all of us, and it was hard to know what the next thing was going to be. Now, we are in a new year and a changed mindset. So, what does that look like for you? What has it changed that would influence your decisions with your finances? If you are like me, you have become hyper-focused on your money. Although I cannot speak to all of your specific situations, I can give you a little insight into some of the items I have focused on as I move into a new year and a new way of life.
Setting Up A Revocable Trust
In 2020, I got my dream job, a baby girl, there world fell apart, and I almost lost my wife. It was time to get some things in line for the future. I decided to take the appropriate steps to get a revocable trust set up. It was fairly easy to go since our church partnered with Financial Planning Ministry to allow their members to get wills and trusts setup for free. There was a little bit leg work to get documents together as well as investments, but it was well worth it. We were able to Zoom meet with the advisor twice and they are currently performing all of the legalize before sending back to us for signatures in about a month. This is a great step to ensure Emma is setup in the event Jordan or I leave this world before her. Nothing will go through probate.
Setting Up An Investment Advisor
With all of the changes in the world and my life, I wanted to prepare for the future as well. Since I have most of my investments with Vanguard, I decided to work with them to manage my accounts. This too was a fairly simple process to get setup with. They do have a minimum of $50,000 to get started as well as a .30% fee on the portfolio assessed every quarter. He was great. They provide a detailed plan as well as options to help you meet the set goals. Having done this, it gives me some piece of mind for our retirement and the future.
Setting Up Side Hustles
Yes, I am looking into other forms of side hustles. I have made some stuff in the past and sold it, but it is not something sustainable right now with the economy. Thus, I am checking into other small business ideas or other ways to sell my services. There are many options and ideas, so this one is still in the earlier stages (I would love to get some comments for ideas).
Ultimately, its 2021, and it is time to start something new!
