How To Keep Your Sanity During The Holiday Spending Craze

Holiday shopping is one of the many experiences during this time of year we almost cannot avoid. Between the constant sales we have to go to or the amazingĀ  Amazon deals, the spending doesn’t stop. However, amidst all of this craziness, how do you maintain your sanity? Is it even possible?

Take a breath

As you search around for the perfect gift for family and friends, the shopping can become overwhelming. From the high ticket prices to the trek to get to all of the different store, you are left feeling exhausted. Although we enjoy getting gifts and being with others, you have to remember to breathe. Every year the craziness seems to get worse and worse. It also seems to go faster and faster. This won’t stop. What can change though is your perception. Remembering to take a moment to take a breath and actually enjoy yourself and not get tangled up in the holiday shenanigans.

Keep an eye on that pesky credit card

One of the worst things we have to deal with this time of year is the ever-growing credit card balance. We want to be able to get nice things for others, but the impending dread of having to deal with the credit card bill after it is all over can be daunting. We can try to drown our sorrows with spending more money, or we can keep an eye on what we are doing. Instead of letting your spending get out of hand, why not take control?

Beware the impulsiveness

The common issue I hear so many people talk about is impulse buying. Simply buying something for the sake of wanting it and not thinking about the repercussions. Know what you need to buy and know how much money you ACTUALLY have left. This should hopefully scare you enough to not buy more than you can afford. If this doesn’t work, maybe consider cutting up your credit card around this time of year and ordering a new one when this season is over.

Ultimately, you have to know yourself. You also have to know how to protect yourself from yourself. Doing this should help keep your own sanity.
